About

In an effort to improve our spirituality, rationale, and identity, this course attempts to explore the socio-political realities of Islamic history.

Allah (swt), in multiple verses, encourages the reader to travel the earth for the purpose of contemplation: “So have they not traveled through the earth and have hearts by which to reason and ears by which to hear?” [Hajj 46]. In an effort to improve our spirituality, rationale, and identity, this course attempts to explore the socio-political realities of Islamic history. It begins with pre-Islam and examines the Umayyid and Abbasid eras. What lessons can be learned? What was it like to be a Muslim during these times? What challenges did Muslims face and how did they overcome them? Ultimately, participants will better understand the tools necessary for more meaningful and impactful socio-religious and political participation in contemporary times.
