Course Description:

This course is for students who have successfully completed  LQA104. This course will be am introduction to the subject of Al-Balaghah, the artistic side of the Arabic language.

This course will have three main topics. First, 'Ilm al-Bayan, the study of creative language that inspires imagination. Within this topic falls the study of parables. imagery, and comparison.

Second, 'Ilm al-Ma'ani, the study of speaking according to the audience. This topic analyzes the most effective way to speak to different groups  of people. It looks at how the wording and tone change depending on the addressee.

Third,  'ilm al-Badi, the study of how to phonetically beautify speech for the ears and heart. Within this topic falls the study of alliteration, rhyming, sarcasm, and irony.

ARB-102 is a year-long course and will require students to re-enroll every trimester. Students may take this class on-site, online, or on-demand.
